When I think of the Taylor, I think of monster trout. The Taylor River is the tailwater below Taylor Reservoir. Known for its huge trout and cold temperatures, the Taylor is Colorado's best for big trout. The fish in this river grow to massive sizes from a healthy diet of Mysis Shrimp. That same diet is what also makes these some of Colorado's most beautiful fish. One of Colorado’s most technical rivers, the persistent angler will be rewarded.
The Taylor is home to some of Colorado's largest fish. The chance of catching that fish of a lifetime is always real at the Taylor. Fish topping 30" and 10 pounds, can be caught on any day. These fish are not only big, they are smart too. Well known for seeing your fly and moving out of the feeding lane to let it pass. They eat mysis shrimp, and very small insects. Don't even think about going to the Taylor without a handful Mysis, and some size #28-30 midge patterns. If you are persistent enough to hook one of these smart monster fish, hold on, and get ready for a fight.
