Without a doubt, one of Colorado's best rivers.  The Frying Pan, also known as "The Pan", is a tailwater located between Glenwood Springs and Aspen, near the town of Basalt.  The river begins at the outlet of Reudi Reservoir, and continues down until it meets up with the Roaring Fork River.  This river is listed as Gold Metal Water and is strictly catch-and-release.  Known for its red rock canyon and beautiful mysis fed rainbow trout, "The Pan" has a lot to offer. Being one of three tailwaters being fed mysis shrimp, the Frying Pan is a mecca for anglers.

The possibility of catching that fish of a lifetime is always real at “The Pan”.  Known for holding large numbers of fish, as well as monster trout, you will never be disappointed at the end of the day.  If you are lucky enough to get a spot at the emphamis "Toilet Bowl", you have an opportunity of hooking a 30" fish that could weigh well over 10 pounds. While many anglers flock to the upper sections, closest to the outlet, the lower stretches of the pan are extremely productive.

While "The Pan" is much more technical than most of Colorado's rivers, it is still a favorite of anglers. The fish in this river have seen it all, and the big ones haven't forgotten. Primarily a nymphing river, it takes a great float and a well matched small fly to entice these trout. You will find great hatches and good dry fly fishing during the warmer summer months. If you are looking for beautiful scenery, and world class fishery, The Frying Pan River is the place for you.
